Willie F. Garmon of Humble, Texas, died April 27, 2006, at the age of 86. He was born Aug. 24, 1919 to Isam & Viola Young Garmon. He is survived by his wife Mary Schalageter Garmon of 58 years of marriage, October 15, 1947 in Schulenburg, Texas; 2-sons Daniel F. Garmon of Humble, and Patrick Garmon of Houston; sister Nell Gregory of Hallettsville, Texas; 4-grandchildren Heath D. Garmon & wife Karen, Jeremy Garmon, Curtis W. Garmon & wife Corey, and Jessica L. Garmon; great-grandson Jared Garmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Willie worked 36 years as a yardmaster for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, PRCA – Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, and former board member for Salem Cemetery. During World War II, he received: 1 Service Stripe; 7 Overseas Service Bars; Army Meritorious Unit Commendation; American Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars for Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific, and Ryukyus Campaigns.
Preceded in death by his parents Isam & Viola Young Garmon.
Service: 11am, Monday, May 1, 2006 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Visitation: 3pm, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev Leon Smothers. Burial: Salem Cemetery, south of Hallettsville. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society. Pallbearers: Clarence Gregory, Andy Anderson, B.J. Henyan, Clyde Bell, Buddy Hermes, and Philip Schalageter.
