IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William H.
“Suggie” Grahmann
February 24, 1937 – August 7, 2014
William H. "Suggie" Grahmann, 77 of Hallettsville, went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2014. He was born on February 24, 1937 to Joe J. and Lillie T. Chovanetz Grahmann in Hallettsville, Texas.
William spent a lot of his growing years with his grandma and grandpa Chovanetz. It is believed that Grandma Chovanetz would call him "Sugar" or "Sug". His great-uncle would ask him, "What is it they call you, Sugar or Vinegar?" He would laugh and stick his tongue out. Since that time he was known as "Suggie" to his family and friends.
Suggie attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated in 1955. He was chosen Senior Class Favorite and played many sports throughout his high school years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He served in the Texas National Guard, was a third degree knight of the Hallettsville Knights of Columbus Council #2433 since 1961, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) since 1963.
Suggie spent his time plowing and doing other farming jobs for various people. He worked for Lane Texas Water Well Service with E. E. Riske, ran a dozer for Carl A. Bozka, and later retired from ExxonMobil after 44 years of service. When he was not working, he was hunting and he loved to hunt. He won the First Annual Hallettsville Knights of Columbus' Big Buck Contest in 1987. His 12-point buck with a 16-inch spread scored 118-3/8 points to take the top honors. That score was unheard of back then for Lavaca County and he was extremely proud of it.
Suggie is survived by his five children Jennifer E.(Greg) Janik of Yoakum, Sophia Grahmann of San Antonio, James W. ( Kandyace) Grahmann of Hallettsville, Kelly W. Grahmann of Hallettsville, and Greg A. (Amanda) Grahmann of Flatonia; step-daughter Anna M. Weitz of Hallettsville; one granddaughter Allyshia Grahmann of Hallettsville; three step-grandsons Colton and Wesley Janik of Yoakum, and Zane Watson of Fort Collins, CO; two sisters Madeline Migura of Hallettsville, and Bridget (Len) Marvin of South Pasadena, CA; one brother Daniel (Donna) Grahmann of San Antonio; aunts Evelyn Pavliska & Leona Chovanetz of Hallettsville & Lillie Lutz of D'Hanis. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Wesley, Melanie, Warren and Wayne Migura, Lisa Fischer, and Matthew Marvin; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and his loving dogs Tasha and Swift.
