Obituary

Walter W. Hemmi, 98, of Hallettsville, passed away April 21, 2011. He was born on July 10, 1912 to Gus & Frances Matejek Hemmi in Lavaca County, Texas. He married Betty Jean Williams on October 4, 1950 in Houston. He was a veteran of WWII in the US Army Air Corps; member of the American Legion Post 230, Knights of Columbus Council 2433, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Walter is survived by: his wife Betty of 60 years; 6 children, Ruth Ann Hemmi of Denton, Richard Hemmi of Houston, Randall Hemmi & wife Patrice of Ville Platte, LA, Dennis Hemmi of Houston, Gary Hemmi & wife Susan of Schulenburg, and Mary Kay Wolfshohl & husband Eric of Pearland; grandchildren, Eric Brotherton, Christine Hemmi, Jessica Hemmi, Elizabeth Hemmi, and Lauren Wolfshohl; step-grandchildren, Jason Sherwood, Adam Smith, and Rachael Smith; and great grandchildren, Wyatt and Malcolm Sherwood.

Walter was preceded in death by: his grandson Jason Verrill; parents; sisters, Annie Hemmi, Helen Hemmi, and Evelyn Theisen; and brothers, 2 at infancy, Alphonse and Leon Hemmi.

Funeral Mass Service: 11 am, Monday, April 25, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 6 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Richard Hemmi, Randall Hemmi, Dennis Hemmi, Gary Hemmi, Eric Wolfshohl, and Eric Brotherton. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church Music Fund or Charity of Your Choice.
