Obituary

Virginia Lee Mikulenka, of Hallettsville, a passed away in Rockport, Texas at the age of 93 on April 20, 2015.

Virginia was born January 30, 1922 in Hallettsville, Texas, the fifth child of nine children. Her parents were H.G.Timm and Eddie Lewis Timm. Virginia grew up in Hallettsville and married Francis Joseph Mikulenka on February 3, 1943. Virginia and Francis started their family with the birth of Timm Lamar and 14 months later Michael Bruce and next Joy Elaine. Virginia spent the next twenty years raising their children and being a loving parent and house wife.

After Joy graduated from high school, Virginia enrolled at Victoria College working her way to become a school teacher. Commuting to Victoria for two years, she gained her associate degree. Next, she enrolled at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcus to gain her degree and teacher's certification in 1974. Virginia started her college endeavor at 48 and was graduated at 52.

With her new education she was hired by the Hallettsville Independent School District teaching kindergarten. Virginia taught kindergarten for 18 years, retiring June, 1992.

Virginia's early years were filled with school work and working for her father at the family grocery store in downtown Hallettsville. Virginia was also very involved in music and singing. In her high school years, Virginia was part of a group that sang songs inspired by the famous McGuire Sisters trio. They sang at special local events such as Lions Club and Rotary Club.

Virginia, Francis and their children were very active in the Hallettsville Methodist Church.

Virginia wrote poetry and to quote her, "I compose and write anytime and anywhere. Whenever a thought crosses my mind, it seems to linger until I give it my undivided attention and put it in rhyme".

The Mikulenkas spent a great deal of time at their second home in Rockport with family and friends almost every week-end during the summers.

After Francis died in September, 1995, Virginia spent her time volunteering in church and for other charity groups around Hallettsville. Virginia spent her last five years in Rockport at the Gulf Point Assisted Living Facility.
