Obituary

Virginia Rose (Spill) Flathmann, 82, of Hallettsville, passed away on September 12, 2020 in Victoria, Texas.  Virginia will be buried at the Lutheran Cemetery in Winters, Texas, on September 16, 2020. A memorial service will be held for her on September 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church, 6059 FM 2314, Hallettsville TX 77964.

Virginia was born in Winters, Texas, on September 14, 1937, to Herman and Katharine Spill as the sixth of seven sisters.  Virginia graduated as an RN in Milwaukee in 1962, and continued as a nurse for much of her life.  Virginia married Albert Ernest Flathmann Jr. on September 2, 1962.  The couple then went as missionaries with the Lutheran Church to Papua New Guinea, where they served for 20 years, Albert as pastor and Virginia as wife, mother and nurse.  Upon returning to the United States, Albert served as the pastor of several churches, while Virginia continued supporting him and working as an RN.  After Albert's death she became a faithful member of God's Worship Center in Hallettsville.

Virginia was passionate about following the Lord Jesus Christ, and felt led to be a missionary to Papua New Guinea from a young age.  She loved the Word of God; it was the foundation of her life.  She spent time every day reading her Bible and praying.  To the very end she was always growing and learning, seeking to be more like Christ.  She loved sharing the Gospel that Jesus Christ died to save sinners.  This was reflected in her many volunteer activities, including Hospital Auxiliary and many, many church and personal ministries.  Her home was always open, and she found many and varied ways to show God's love to the people God brought into her life.  Virginia passionately loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was never happier than when they were in her lap and she was reading them a story.  She often said, "They are my blessing!"

Virginia was preceded in death by:  her parents Katie and Herman Spill; her husband Albert Flathmann; her baby brother; and her sisters, Mildred Kuykendal and Marilena Chappelle.

She is survived by:  her sisters, Enid Anderson, Joyce Gosh, Sylvia Frisch, and Ruth Ann (Rudy) Wallace; her five children, Mary (Vaughn) Ohlman, Elizabeth (Teed) Carlson, David (Annetta) Flathmann, Larry (Kim) Flathmann, and Jonathan (Isla) Flathmann; as well as by 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Virginia, Mom, Grandma, Mrs. V will be dearly missed, and though we deeply grieve her absence we know she is rejoicing in heaven with her Savior.
