Vernon "Vernie" Eugene Duty Jr, 44, of Hallettsville, died Wednesday January 22, 2020. He was born October 28, 1975, in Houston, Texas, to Vernon and Kathleen (Rodgers) Duty.
Vernie graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1994. He continued his education at the University of Houston-Victoria, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Applied Arts & Science. He was employed at Caterpillar in Victoria.
Vernie enjoyed life on the farm, bailing hay, and tending to cattle and chickens in addition to spending time with his family and friends. He loved to share stories of his workday adventures and always knew the best places to eat. He was a truck and tractor enthusiast. The family prays that he will be remembered for his kindness and his sense of humor. He was a devoted and loving uncle to his nieces and nephew, was the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was truly an all-around great person.
Vernie is survived by: his parents, Vernon & Kathleen Duty of Hallettsville; 3 brothers, Jarrod Duty & wife Lindsay of Hallettsville, Randall Duty & wife Laura of Richardson and Patrick Duty of Austin; nephew and 3 nieces, Ryan Duty, Alexis Duty, Caroline Duty (Goddaughter), and Kate Duty; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Vernie was preceded in death by his grandparents James & Regina Rodgers and R. B. & Charlotte Duty.
Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home, with the Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Jason Mikeska, Kelly Nagel, Pete Ramos, Roddy Renger, Richard Renger, and Will Vera. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials (In lieu of flowers): the family request memorials be made to charity of donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Hallettsville.
