Vernon Eugene Duty Sr., 75, of Hallettsville, passed away December 8, 2022. He was born on August 11, 1947, to Robert B. & Charlotte Williford Duty, in Houston, TX. After high school he joined the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for his uncle's construction company before finishing his career with Harris County Precinct 3.
Vernon married Kathleen Rodgers in 1971 and 4 sons followed. He moved to Hallettsville in 1994 with his family and spent his time farming, hauling hay, and enjoying daily trips to town. He enjoyed rodeos, watching westerns, and anything with John Wayne in it. Vernon was one of a kind, he would do anything for a friend at the drop of a hat.
Vernon is survived by: wife Kathleen; 3 sons, Jarrod Duty & wife Lindsay of Hallettsville, Randall Duty & wife Laura of Austin and Patrick Duty of Austin; sister Carol Gay; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Duty, Alexis Duty, Caroline Duty & Kate Duty; and several nieces & nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by; his parents, son Vernon E. Duty Jr. and brother William David Duty.
Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Tuesday, at Kubena Funeral Home, with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Michael Appelt, Darrell Appelt, Dr. Forrest Kroschel, Richard Renger, Palmer Sommer and Kevin Busselman. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas or donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
