Vera Anne Schoenberg Vickers, 91, of Alvin/Brenham, passed away May 12, 2019. She was born on December 15, 1927 to Frank and Vera Schoenberg of Yoakum. She graduated from Milby High School in Houston. She married James D. Vickers on October 10, 1948 in Corpus Christi.
After their four children were born, she and James moved to Lafayette, La. where James was working with Pan American Petroleum Co. When James passed away at the end of 1957, she moved her family to Hallettsville to be close to her family. While in Hallettsville she worked at Kahanek and Renger Drugstore and Farm Bureau Insurance Co. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
After her children were grown, she moved to Houston and worked for a bone and joint clinic at the Twin Towers in Houston. When she retired, she kept herself busy enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren, going to dinner theaters, operas and ballroom dances with her brother Jack.
Anne was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She loved animals. She also loved her naps and happy hour. She gave the best hugs and had a beautiful smile. She was always well dressed and you would never see her without her lipstick on. She never missed church and loved collecting souvenirs.
Anne was survived by; her children, Steve (Sherry) of Alvin, Karen of Georgetown and Stephanie of Brenham. She had 9 grandchildren; Melissa (Dennis), Bridget (Richard), Kyla, Patrick, Melanie, Mary, Jenny, Heidi, and Haley. She also had 16 great grandchildren; Katie, Colton, Caden, Grace, Brock, Logan, Lucas, Ryan, Tanner, Jaxon, Mia, Nadia, Megan, Tanner, Emerson and Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anne was preceded in death by: her parents Frank and Vera Schoenberg; husband James D. Vickers; daughter Pamela Brookshier; sister Ruth Grubert; and brothers, Billy, Frank, William, Phillip and Jack Schoenberg.
Funeral Mass Service : 10 am, Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 6 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home; with the Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Dennis Joseph, Richard Saunders, Colton Joseph, Kyle Brookshier, Patrick Brookshier, and Leroy Stavinoha. Honorary Pallbearers: Caden Joseph and Brock Saunders. Offertory Gifts: Grace Saunders, Caden Joseph and Brock Saunders. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Donor's choice. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Yoakum.
