IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vanice
Krejci
September 19, 1930 – March 21, 2025
Vanice Krejci, 94, passed peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2025. A beloved matriarch, her memory lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was born September 19, 1930, to Richard F. and Frances Motal Cervenka in Hallettsville, Texas.
In 1947, Vanice met Ignac Krejci at the Wagon Wheel in Sweet Home, Texas. It was love at first sight and they married June 7, 1948, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. They moved to Houston and raised six children: Kathy, David, Robert, Carol, Tom and John. In addition to baking and cooking for her family, she made many meals for the students at Jessup Elementary for 15 years.
In 1990, Ignac and Vanice retired back to their hometown of Hallettsville and reconnected with many old friends and family. They loved going to church picnics, dancing polkas and waltzes, and playing dominoes and bunko. She was an active lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America, both in Houston and Hallettsville. Her baking was so famous, her picture and her recipe for salmon mousse were featured in the 2004 GVEC calendar. Also in 2004, she was selected Kolache Queen at the Hallettsville Kolache Festival. She loved riding in the parades waving at everyone. She looked forward every year to participating in the Krejci family Fiddlers Frolics BBQ team and was so proud when they won awards.
Vanice was preceded in death by her husband, Ignac, and son, David. She is survived by: her remaining children, Kathy, Robert, Carol, Tom and John; 11 grandchildren, Steve, Kimberly, Jessica, August, Amanda, Travis, John Jr., Logan, Braeden, Deveny, and Clayton; and 5 great grandchildren, Liam, Lyra, Anthony, Isabella and Payton; all of whom will miss her dearly.
