Obituary

Theresa Pustejovsky Steffek, 78, of Hallettsville, passed away May 24, 2012. She was born on October 8, 1933 to Julius & Annie Konvicka Pustejovsky in Hallettsville. She was raised on their beautiful hilltop farm outside of Hallettsville. Working diligently throughout her childhood engrained in her a flawlessly strong work ethic and love for the country and animals, especially her chickens and roosters later in life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Theresa's first outside job was working at Hruzek's Pharmacy in Hallettsville where she was inspired to go into nursing, witnessing the customers many needs. She attended Wharton Junior College of Vocational Nursing. Her first nursing job was at Mauritz Memorial Hospital in Ganado, Texas. While there, Drs. Bauknight and Mortland insisted that she come to work in their private medical offices. In 1957 she moved to Houston, Texas to further her nursing career in the Houston Medical Center for nearly 25 years, working for Doctors of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, including Dr. Zionts, Dr. Moore, Dr. Ray Skaggs and Drs. Burrows, Hicks, and Orman. After 1982 she worked in assisted living facilities sharing her gift of patient caring until retirement in 1998. Theresa is survived by: 2 sons, Alvin Charles Steffek & wife Lori of Hallettsville, and Michael Anthony Steffek & wife Pamela of Georgetown; brother Bohumir Pustejovsky & wife Mary Ann of Hallettsville; 5 grandchildren, Beth Hull & husband Steven, Kaylie Steffek, Charles Steffek, Teagan Steffek, and Aiden John Steffek; and 2 great grandchildren, Caleb & Maddie Hull.

Theresa was preceded in death by: her parents; 3 sisters, Hedwig "Hedy, Vlasta and Justina Pustejovsky; and 3 brothers, Fred, Ludwig and Julius Pustejovsky.

Funeral Mass Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 9:30 am, Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary: 11 am, Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: American Cancer Society, or Texas Home Health Hospice.
