Mrs. Thelma M. Spies, 75, of Hallettsville, died August 9, 2007. She was born September 30, 1931 to Julius J. & Helen Woitaske Grahmann in Lavaca County, Texas. She married Arthur W. Spies Jr. on May 5, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. She was a member of the Altar Society in Moravia, Catholic Daughters of Americas of Sacred Heart, Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary, K.J.T., Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Thelma is survived by: husband Arthur; 2 sons, Stephen Spies & wife Peggy of Austin, and Charles Spies & wife Janie of Katy; 2 daughters, Janet Spies of Austin, and Arlene Becan & husband Allen; 2 brothers, David J. Grahmann and Andrew J. Grahmann both of Stafford; 6 sisters, Viola C. Grahmann of Hallettsville, Virginia Pustka of Shiner, Frances Hanslik of Moulton, Irene Barton of Koerth, Gertrude Janak of Hallettsville, and Mary Bruening of Shelby; and 9 grandchildren, Ashley Becan, Joshua Becan, Sarah Spies, Virginia Spies, Angela Spies, John Spies, Theresa Spies, Jacob Spies, and Luke Spies.
Thelma was preceded in death by; daughter Ann Marie Spies, grandson Andrew E. Spies, and parents.
Service: 1 pm, Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 3 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosaries: 8 pm, Saturday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; and 12:30 pm, Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Lindey Osborne, Patrick Spies, Michael Hanslik, John Barton, Robert Pustka, and Russell Janak. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, or Donor's Choice.
