Obituary

Thelma Guidry Owen, 86, died on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2008, in Lavaca Hospital after a short illness. She was born on February 18, 1922 in Abbeville, LA, to Eloi Guidry and Naomi Le Blouef Guidry. She lived in Port Arthur, TX until her husband's retirement when they moved to Hallettsville.

Thelma was a very devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. Her home walls were great testimony to how much she treasured each one of her family members. She took you through her whole house on every visit to show you her latest additions.

Thelma also loved flowers and working in her garden. She received the Yard of the Month Reward for her beautiful yard.

Besides working with her flowers, her next favorite thing was going dancing with her husband, Don, and their many friends and working out to videos when she was still able to. She loved life and knew how to celebrate it with great joy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Hunter Owen in 2007 and her oldest son, Lenis Charles Herpin in 1991.

Thelma is survived by one son, Lercy Owen and wife Ilene of Westhoff, TX, her daughter-in-law, Sandie Herpin of Corpus Christi, TX., 12 grandchildren, Kimberly and husband David, Amy and husband Charles, Missy, Lercy(Bubba) Jr., Terri and husband Jeff, Michelle and husband Kent, Danny and wife Lisa, David and wife Jennifer, Jennifer and husband Brian, Matthew, Christine and husband Joey, and Mickey.

Thelma was especially proud of her 24 great-grand children and one great, great, grandchild, whose birthdays she never forgot.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church but due to her illness was unable to attend as much as she wanted so would listen to the Mass every Sunday. The Sunday before her death she was able to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion which made her so happy. She was so grateful for this special gift.
