Sylvin J. Olsovsky Sr., 82, of Hallettsville, passed away April 15, 2015. He was born on May 23, 1932, to Julius J. & Matilda Konvicka Olsovsky in Hallettsville. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Sylvin served in the US Navy for 4 years during the Korean War and received the; National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After his military service, he studied at the University of Texas in the Geology Studies, and worked in the oil & gas industry in the surrounding area of Lavaca County. He later retired to farming & ranching.
Sylvin is survived by: 2 sons, Dwayne & Sylvin Jr. Olsovsky; daughter Kimberly Hajek; sister Dorothy Sicko; sister-in-law Dorothy Olsovsky; 6 grandchildren, Jason Olsovsky, Sarah Tucker, Kelly Steffek, Kayla Brown, Marshall Hajek, and Madison Hajek; and 6 great grandchildren, Khloe Olsovsky, Kolet Olsovsky, Clay Vrana, Luke Vrana, Lilly Vrana, and Adalyn Steffek.
Sylvin was preceded in death by: parents, and 2 brothers, Julius E. & George Olsovsky.
Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Monday, April 20, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of St. John, TX. Visitation: 4 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 6 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Marshall Hajek, Pat Hajek, Mike Kostelnik, Kaleb Mitchell, Allen Monk, and Bubba Barnes. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial: St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery of St. John, TX.
