IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvester Frank
Jares
October 8, 1940 – September 28, 2014
Sylvester Frank Jares was born in Hallettsville, Texas to Daniel F. Jares and Viola Jares. His brothers were Danny Joe Jares and Lonnie Jares. His sisters were Annette (Jares) Fajkus and Judy (Jares) Werner.
Frank attended Sacred Heart Catholic School where he enjoyed playing football. He also became a phenomenal roller skater at his parents' Pecan Grove Skating Rink. His grace on skates was amazing. After high school, Frank attended Wharton Junior College for a short time, but he ultimately trained as a welder and became a highly skilled pipefitter. He was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 211. His career took him across the United States where he worked grueling hours in extreme conditions.
Frank also used his talents for commissioned projects throughout the years. Everything from custom motorcycle frame modifications, to barbeque grills, to a towering solid steel crucifix illuminated by carefully concealed LED lighting. He designed and created several different farm implements as well. He could create almost anything out of steel simply by imagining it. He was also a natural mechanic that could dive into almost any repair and figure out how to fix it.
Frank married Judy Ellen (Meinelt) Jares. Their children are Debbie Ellen (Jares) Buckner, Frank Daniel Jares, and Jason Frank Jares. Frank passed on a relentless work ethic, strong morals, a wonderful sense of humor, and a love of good food and company to his children.
Frank was a devout man of faith. He regularly attended mass on many feast days in addition to regular Sunday mass. He prayed the rosary frequently. He was a member of several different prayer groups that met outside of church. Frank financially supported many different Catholic charities and missionary efforts. He constantly sought guidance from our Lord and the Blessed Mother.
Frank loved nature. He loved to fish and camp outdoors. He held a deep love for animals. He cared for his goats and cattle as if they were children. He would go to extraordinary lengths to rescue orphaned livestock and to protect them from predators. He also loved domestic pets as well and enjoyed spoiling his dog with treats from Frank's own plate.
Frank always tried to alleviate the burden of others while keeping his own troubles hidden. Unfortunately, his health suffered as a result. He suffered a heart attack around 2000, survived prostate cancer, and then had a stroke while working on a tractor in 2010. It was during this time that his family learned that he had developed diabetes. Frank made a miraculous recovery from that stroke with diligent therapy. He returned to independent living and lived happily until 2014. At some point, he had another heart attack that went undiscovered and untreated. He subsequently had a second stroke in August 2014. He was left paralyzed on his left side, unable to swallow, and with severe short term memory loss. However, he retained his personality and his craving for barbeque, kolaches, and tea. His nurses sometimes thought he lost his wits, but it was quite the opposite. Frank continued to make jokes during their assessments even when his health was in dire condition.
Throughout his suffering, he often called upon the Lord, the Blessed Mother, and for the intercession of my saintly grandfather, Dan Jares. Finally, on an early Sunday morning, God ended his suffering in this world and gave him peace.
We love you, Daddy!
