December 11, 1933 – April 17, 2012
Sylvester served in the United State Army for 2 years, served 2 years in the National Guard and 2 years in the Army Reserves. He was stationed in Guam for 18 months.
Sylvester life was surrounded by hard work. He owned and operated a dozer for thirty-nine years, and then engaged in ranching – cattle and goats. Also, he was an avid hunter and loved fishing.
Sylvester received awards for Absentee Conservation Rancher Award District No. 341 and Absentee Conservation Rancher Region III, and FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer. He was also a past director of the Hallettsville Livestock Show.
He is survived by: his wife of 52 years; three sons, Dale Janak of Moravia, Wayne Janak of Moulton, and Kenward Janak and wife Sheryl of Moulton; a daughter Joane Janak of Moravia; three grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew (Andy), and Rhiann Janak of Hallettsville; a sister Agatha Janak of Yoakum; a brother-in-law Leo Opela of Wied; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Justine Migl and Marcella Opela, and brother-in-law Albin Migl.
Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Friday, April 20, 2012, at Ascension Of Our Lord Catholic Church of Moravia. Visitation: 4 pm, Thursday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Thursday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Allen Migl, Gary Migl, Andy Janak, Daniel Janak, Ronnie Opela, and Donald Opela. Burial: Ascension of our Lord Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, Ascension Of Our Lord Catholic Church, or Donor's Choice
