Obituary

Sybil Helen Sitka was born December 21, 1917, to John and Albina Steffek Sitka in St Mary's. She attended Brown School. She met the one love of her life, Melvin August Janak and they were married on November 5, 1941. Melvin was called off to WWII and Sybil lived with her family like most veteran wives did at that time until 3 years and 4 months later when he returned from the war. Melvin, Jr. was born on December 11, 1942.

They lived in Yoakum for a short while and then bought their farm at Witting where Sybil worked side by side with her husband farming and ranching. Their daughter, Joyce was born September 2, 1958 and that completed their immediate family. Sybil loved to cook, can her own grown vegetables from her garden, and bake. She always had more than enough food and baked goods handy for anyone who visited. She loved flowers and gave numerous hibiscus cuttings and of course, her "famous petunias" to family and friends. Sybil also loved to sew, quilt, and embroidery and made the majority of her clothes until her eyesight would not allow her to do the hobbies she loved to do. She charmed everyone she met and was appreciative of all of the thoughts, phone calls, visits, and prayers from her family and friends.

Sybil and Melvin were devout Catholics, attending every 1st Friday and Sunday masses at St. Anthony's Catholic Church across the road from their house, and then later at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of the K.J.Z.T., St' Mary's Altar Society, and the Holy Rosary Society. In her later years when Sybil had more time, she prayed two or more rosaries daily. She continued to pray the rosary in her hand until her final moment on this earth.
