Susie is survived by: her husband of almost 50 years Benjamin Orville "Ben" Smith of Sheridan; daughters, Shannon Lynn Stilwell (Andrew) of Cypress TX, Aimie Elizabeth Jones (Jason) of East Bernard TX, Kimberly Suzanne "Kimie" Smith (John Edison of Houston) of Sheridan TX; stepdaughter Cynthia Ann Yuen (Wayne) of Emmett ID; stepson Martin Benjamin Smith (Pam) of Anchorage AK; stepdaughter-in-law Cyndi Smith of Hallettsville TX; grandchildren, Alexander Yuen of Emmett ID, Tyrel Yuen (Rose) of Emmett ID, Kassandra Smith and James Smith of Anchorage AK, Russell Smith Jr. (Josie) of Hallettsville TX, Finley Stilwell and Kieran Stilwell of Cypress TX,; Brendan Jones of Havelock NC, and Jade Jones and Scarlet Jones of East Bernard TX; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jodeci, Danico, Gunnar, Taylar and Pipar; and many loved ones and furry family members including her beloved chihuahua Zsa Zsa and new puppy Peanut.
Susie was born Sept. 8, 1948, in San Antonio TX and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She met the love of her life Ben Smith and they were married on April 24, 1972. Upon marrying Ben, she gained three stepchildren Cindy, Marty and Rusty and to this union, Shannon, Aimie and Kimie were born. Shortly after the birth of their first daughter together, they moved to Sublime TX and then in 1979, they moved to Sheridan TX where they made a home and raised their family and where she resided until her death.
Susie, before becoming a homemaker and raising her family, spent time working at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center near Luling and after the girls grew up and moved out, she spent time in the home health field helping those who needed her love and care. She would cook for them, take care of their daily needs and treat them like family. Susie had a giving spirit and received joy from helping people. She enjoyed shopping, dressing up in beautiful clothing accessorized perfectly with her favorite Home Shopping Network finds and going out and listening to good music when she could. She was a huge fan of Adam Lambert and was a pro at writing the world's longest texts on her favorite subjects. We sure will miss those. She bravely fought illness and pain throughout her adult life, but was comforted by, and spent time with, her family and her beloved dogs and enjoyed watching old movies and serials. I Love Lucy and Little House on the Prairie were two of her favorites that her daughters remember from their childhoods. She also enjoyed horticulture and kept a variety of plants around the house.
Susie adored her kids and grandkids and enjoyed cooking for her family and her kids' kids. Her warm tuna casserole (except for one daughter who called it "Shannon repellent"), her mac and cheese and her spaghetti were some of the kids' favorites. She also made a mean green bean casserole, and her girls have fond memories of Mr. Gatti's all you can eat buffet trips as kids.
Mom will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in the fact that she is now free of pain and reunited with her many loved ones and fur babies in heaven.
