Obituary

Steven Wade Bressler, 66, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away on July 12, 2025.  He was born to Garland and Beulah Bressler on March 31, 1959, in Covina, California.  He known as Steve to his family and friends was the youngest of ten children.  Shortly after his birth his family moved to Weott, California.  During his elementary years he lived in Toppenish, Washington, Lolita, California, Fort Seward, California, and completed his elementary and middle school years in Weott and Miranda California.  He attended South Fork High School his freshman through Junior years where he played both football and basketball receiving many honors.  The summer of his Senior year 1976, he moved with his family to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1977.

After graduation Steve traveled back to Northern California where he worked on a ranch and did some logging, while there he had a personal experience with his Lord, Jesus Christ.  He knew he was to return to Oklahoma and attend college.  While in college he took several Criminology classes where he realized his calling was in law enforcement.  He applied and was accepted to the Houston Police Department and started the academy on November 3, 1980.  During his time in the police force he obtained accolades and made several friends who became his family in blue.

He maintained his walk with the Lord and kept a bible on the dash of his shop.  Many of Steve's partners have said Steve's life reflected his love of God.  He retired as a Senior Police Officer on October 13, 2012, after 31 years, 7 months, and 6 days of outstanding, faithful and dedicated service.  During his tenure with the Houston Police Department, he also held several security jobs.  He was fortunate to become head of security for the owner of the Houston Texans which he held until the death of Robert McNair.  At the request of Janice McNair, he continued as her home head of security until his death.

Steve loved the outdoors and loved to hunt, he worked at ridding Texas of its Feral Pig problem and was happy to share his love with his family and friends.  He pursued many interests which included helping friends and neighbors clearing, leveling and mowing their properties.  His greatest love was his God, he said he didn't have a religion he had a relationship with God.  This relationship shone through him daily.  He was active in church with the Royal Rangers and enjoyed teaching Sunday School.

Steve loved living in Hallettsville where he was able to enjoy and love on his dogs, chickens, and goats.  His friends and immediate family, police family and church family were very important to him.  He loved his siblings, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was known lovingly as the gentle bear by friends and the gentle giant by his nieces and nephews.  He had a knack for telling stories and a quick wit. When with him, you always came away smiling.

Steve will be deeply missed by friends and family.  He was survived by:  two brothers, Wesley Bressler and Allan Bressler & wife Diana; his sisters, Celine Smith, Georgetta Simmons, Kathy Fritsch, Rita Lahr & husband Ed; and his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by; his mother and father, his sisters, Carolyn Sprinkle and Virginia Brewster and his brother Darrell Bressler.
