Rosalee Marie Gaskamp
, 88, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 6, 2015 after a long illness. She was born on Sept. 21, 1927 to Joseph Charles Brossmann and Magdalena Pauler Brossmann in Schulenburg, Texas. She was the third of 9 children. Her brothers and sisters, who all predeceased her, were Charles Brossmann who died in infancy, Frances Brossmann Wendler, Irene Brossmann Barta who was Rosalee's identical twin, Edgar Brossmann, Lillian Brossmann Fowle, Doris Brossmann Schaffer, Joseph Brossmann Jr., and Gene Brossmann.
Rosalee attended St. Rose School through the 8th grade and graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1945. She moved to Houston and worked at various secretarial jobs. She married John McLeod in 1948 and they settled in Pasadena, Texas. Her children are Kathryn McLeod Langenberg, John Robert McLeod and Deborah Lynn McLeod.
Rosalee and John divorced in 1961 and she began working in Houston as a secretary in the legal, home mortgage and rail transportation fields. She was famous at her places of employment for her command of spelling and grammar. She married Perry Gaskamp in 1970. Perry was a licensed mortician who worked for Froberg Funeral Home in Alvin. Rosalee continued working, retiring from CSX Corporation in 1994, when she and Perry moved to Hallettsville. Rosalee lost Perry in 2007.
Before retiring Rosalee and Perry spent most weekends in Hallettsville, savoring the small town, country lifestyle in which they were raised. Rosalee enjoyed garage sales, weddings, reunions, playing dominoes, and other small-town social events and she adored her cats.
Rosalee is survived by her children, daughter-in-law Phalini McLeod, grandchildren Misty Langenberg Sanders & husband Eric, Brandon Langenberg, Wesley Conerly & wife Errika, Ty McLeod, Kamalini McLeod Getz and great-grandchildren Eric Sanders Jr., Ethan Sanders and B. Soucha.
