Obituary

Ronald James Brown, 48, of Hallettsville, passed away June 20, 2013. He was born on Aug. 18, 1964 to Clarence & Beatrice Satsky Brown in Hallettsville.

Ronald "Ron" Brown loved the outdoors and his favorite pastimes were bowfishing and hunting. He loved bowfishing but enjoyed it even more when family or friends could be with him and was always on the water when he wasn't working. He always enjoyed company on the bowfishing trips especially his brother Stephen. If Stephen wasn't available to go with him then he would go scout out "the jungle" for their next trip. They may not shoot anything for hours but enjoyed spending time together. The biggest alligator gar they shot was about 100 pounds but of course the bigger ones always got away! Hunting was another one of his passions and he was one of the best shots around with a bow or gun. He frequently went to his lease in Muldoon just to check feeders to make sure they were ready for the beginning of hunting season. When he had more than just a few days off of work he would go to Comstock to hang out with his hunting buddies at the camp and tell hunting stories. The buck he was most proud of was one he shot with his bow that was a 10 pointer with a 22" spread. He often got calls during the season of someone needing help tracking a deer and would take his hunting companions, Jake and Cisco. He was very old fashioned and liked to live off of the land. Every year he tended to his garden and would supply his family and friends with fresh vegetables.

He enjoyed riding the back roads on his motorcycles and stopping to socialize along the way. He never met anyone that he couldn't hold a conversation with.

Although he enjoyed these pastimes, his pride and joy were his two daughters, Kelly and Kayla. He loved spending time with them as often as he could. They would spend time talking for hours on his front porch about old times and upcoming future events. He enjoyed cooking fresh fish out of his tank and inviting them to come over for supper. He enjoyed spending time with his son-in-law, Dustin talking about fishing, guns and comparing their jobs. Ronald was very excited about the upcoming arrival of his first grandchild and would talk about it to anyone who would listen. When Kelly and Dustin made the announcement to him he told them that they had made his year. He would frequently call Kelly to check in and see how she and the baby were doing.

Ronald is survived by: 2 daughters, Kelly Steffek & husband Dustin, and Kayla Brown, both of Hallettsville; parents, Clarence & Beatrice Satsky Brown of Hallettsville; 5 brothers, Jimmy Brown & wife Charlotte, Stanley Brown & wife Rhonda, Clifford Brown & wife Alta, Stephen Brown, all of Hallettsville, and Rodney Brown of Chicago, IL; 2 sisters, Barbara Remmers & husband Paul, and Brenda Henneke & husband Karl, both of Hallettsville; a granddaughter on the way; 5 nieces; 9 nephews; and numerous cousins.
