Roger Francis Janak, 65, of Hallettsville, passed away March 2, 2020. He was born on April 3, 1954, to Frank M. & Margaret "Peggy" Netardus Janak in Hallettsville. He married Beverly Ann Koerth in January 2, 2009.
Roger was a hard-working man and took great pride in the quality of his work and making sure the job was done right. He was trusted by many and always had a line waiting for his carpentry skills. He was a great mentor and always willing to volunteer his time and help out where needed. He devoted a lot of his time to the KC Hall and KC organization and Sacred Heart Church and School. He had a true servant's heart. He never met a stranger. Roger enjoyed taking trips to Cancun, riding his four-wheeler, checking on his cows and spending time with family. He enjoyed Polka music and pivo and attending functions at the KC Hall.
Roger graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1972. He attended Texas State Technical Institute for certification as a Building Construction Craftsman. He was the owner of Roger Janak Construction. He was a Eucharistic Minister, Cantor, and Usher; and held Office as Church Pastoral Council, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. His current office with the Knights of Columbus was Advocate; previous offices, Grand Knight (3 years), Recorder (2 years), Financial Secretary (15 years) and Counsel Director. His current office at Knights of Columbus 4 th degree was Pursor and previously held Comptroller. Previous offices held as President, Vice President and Treasurer; at KJT – Catholic Union of Texas, St. Wenceslaus, Society #15, and Smothers Creek. He also held office as Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce Director from 1995 to 1997, and served on various committees.
Roger has received award; Sacred Heart School – Elizabeth Seton Award and Distinguished Alumni Award; Knight of Columbus Council #2433 – Knight of the Year 1987 – 1988 and 2002 – 2003; KJT – 2 nd runner up for Fraternalist of the Year 2005; and Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce – Citizen of the Year 2002.
Roger is survived by: his wife Beverly; 2 daughters, Amber Jansky & husband Eric, and Andrea Rejcek & husband Eric; step-daughter Ivy Frazier & Heath Tharp; 3 grandchildren, Ethan Jansky, Layla Rejcek and Layton Rejcek; 2 step-grandchildren, Aiden and Ava Frazier; 2 brothers, Michael Janak & wife Jolene, and Allan Janak & wife Charlene; and 2 brothers-in-law, Edmond Koerth, and Larry Pugh & wife Betty.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Doris Pugh.
Funeral Mass Service : 10 am, Friday, March 6, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Thursday at Kubena Funeral Home; with the Rosary starting at 7 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church . Pallbearers: Macklin Johnson, Clinton Johnson, Leon Etzler, Andrew Janak, Chad Smirak and Darren Steffek. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church/School, Knights of Columbus, or Donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
