May 11, 1923 – September 14, 2007
Robert served his country during World War II; he received the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge from the Army on Feb. 13, 1946, he farmed near St. Mary's until 1956. He then went to work for Larson & Stockton Bridge Builders as a cement finisher and welder. During this time the family moved to many different areas in Texas. Upon retiring in 1978, Robert returned to his parent's homestead where he continued cement work. He also found enjoyment working in his garden, raising his cows and spending time with his family and friends.
Robert is survived by: his wife Marcella Fikac Klekar; son Robert Dennis Klekar & wife Jeanette of Sealy; 3 daughters, Charlene Fishar & husband Frank of Hallettsville, Deberah Konvicka & husband Blase of Hallettsville, and Connie Pape & husband Lee of Victoria; 2 sisters, Annie Henke of Hallettsville, and Beatrice Mensik of Weimar; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Klekar Shinn & husband Jerry, Ryan Klekar, Paula Fishar Blumenthal & husband Ernie, Sandra Fishar Hawkins & husband Nathan, Nicole Fishar Dworsky & husband Kevin, Krystle Konvicka Roberts & husband Ian, Jessica Konvicka, Kandis Konvicka, Blasé Konvicka III, and Britni Pape; and 6 great grandchildren, Ben Shinn, Bailey Shinn, Morgan Blumenthal, Jared Blumenthal, Gavin Blumenthal, and Aidan Roberts.
Robert was preceded in death by: infant son James Wayne Klekar; grandson Bruce Fishar; parents; 3 sisters, Viola Henke, Mary Klekar, and Victoria Klekar; and his twin brother Albert Klekar and brother Hubert Klekar.
Service: 10 am, Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation: 2 pm, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosaries: 6 pm Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home; and 9:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Ryan Klekar, Blase Konvicka III, Lee Pape, James Mensik, Mike Sherpinskas, and Victor Klekar. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: St. Mary's Church, Sacred Heart Church, or Hospice of South Texas.
