Richard Zane Montgomery, 63, of Vsetin, Texas, passed away on November 1, 2015, surrounded by all of his children, following a brief illness.
Richard was born in Freeport, Texas on October 26, 1952, the youngest of four children of Murray and Jessie Montgomery. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1971, and then served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974 overseas in Germany, as an artilleryman. After working for several years as an operator at the Dow Chemical facility in Freeport, Richard moved his family to Lavaca County. He worked for 25 years at the Texas Department of Transportation branch in Hallettsville, until his retirement in 2011. As all who knew him can attest, Richard loved the Lord, his family, his Texas Longhorns, motorcycles, and Mopar hot rods.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Murray V. Montgomery of Hallettsville and sister Linda Sue Montgomery. He is survived by his mother, Jessie Montgomery of Hallettsville, brothers Murray V. Montgomery Jr. of Hallettsville and Joel Scott Montgomery of Colville, Washington, his four children – son Joel Z. Montgomery of Houston, daughter Richelle "Chelly" White of Cypress, Texas, son R. Levi Montgomery of Spring Branch, Texas, son Peter V. Montgomery of Chula Vista, California, and ten grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Broken Oak, 6165 FM 2314 in Vsetin, with barbecue and beer to follow – all of Richard's friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers , the family suggests that memorial may be made to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund: http://www.cfsrf.org/
