Obituary

Raymond Johnnie Dornak, 83, of Hallettsville, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 20, 2018. He was born on Nov 5, 1934 to August C. & Agnes Rainosek Dornak. He married Lois Krupa at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, TX on May 21, 1956. They enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage and missed it by one day before his passing. He was a devoted member of the American Legion Post 230, V.F.W. Post 6382, Knights of Columbus, past Applet's Hill Gun Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Raymond enlisted in United States Navy at age 17, served in the Korean War and was honorable discharged in 1955. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, United Nations Medal, and Korean Service Medal.

After serving his country, Raymond moved to Houston where he worked for Electronic Parts Distributors. In 1957, he went to work for the CAA, which is now the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller. In 1994, he retired with FAA with over 40 years of government services. His job transferred him from Houston to Alice, Texas to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Youngsville, Louisiana and back to Conroe, Texas where he then retired. After retirement, he and Lois made their home in Hallettsville, TX, where Raymond was born and raised, they have resided for over 24 years.

Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with his cattle; many other hobbies such as reloading gun shells, he was an expert at repairing and servicing computers, he enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He was an amateur radio operator (K5CON), and over time he established radio contacts with 340 people in countries and islands. Every Sunday morning he would enjoy chatting with the people on the radio all over the country and this became his lifelong hobby. He volunteered as a bingo caller for American Legion, at the Sacred Heart picnics in the refreshment areas and at Fiddlers Frolics. Above everything, his greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, remarkable father, loving grandfather and great grandfather who loved when they all came to visit him in the country.
