Randall "Keith" Cullar

Randall "Keith" Cullar, 70, of Hallettsville, passed away into the welcoming arms of the Lord on August 25, 2026, in Houston, Texas, during a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 16, 1956, in Sugar Land, Texas, to James “Leon” and Eula (Miller) Cullar and he spent most of his life living in Sugar Land.

Keith grew up working in his Father’s Texaco gas station in Sugar Land where he learned many important mechanical and practical life skills. He graduated from Dulles High School in 1975, and soon thereafter married the love of his life Brinda on August 16, 1975. They set out to make a life together forged on love, hard work, family and God.

Keith worked for Halliburton after graduation for a few years then had an opportunity to work for BMC Software where he trained and studied telecommunications. He found his niche in this field and mastered it, allowing him to then work for Cardinal Health (formerly Owen Healthcare) where he spent over 20 years as the telecom manager. The last step in his career was with Fort Bend County as the telecom manager where he worked until he retired in 2018.

Keith and Brinda worked their entire lives, saving and planning for retirement and they were able to fulfill their lifelong dream of building a beautiful home on Brinda’s family property in the community of Ezzell outside of Hallettsville, where they retired to in 2018. Although he spent his entire life working, he never worked as hard as he did on the Cullar Farm building their barn and maintaining the farm which includes cattle, chickens, vegetable gardens and several outbuildings. Although it was hard work, they thrived in their new community, became active in Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed retired life.

Keith and Brinda were also extremely fortunate to have travelled the world over the last eight years making trips to Hawaii, Alaska, England, Ireland, Scotland, D-Day Beaches, Panama Canal, Italy, Spain, Monti Carlo, Prague Czech, Boston, Nashville and many islands. Their trip to Hawaii was the most special because their entire family joined them making memories that will last through three generations.

Keith led a very busy life and his hobbies included taking photos and videos of their travels and family, yard work, building things, ranching, growing vegetables (and sharing them), travelling and helping at their church when he could. He mastered everything in life he set out to do. He was a devoted husband and father, and he adored his wife, children and grandchildren. Katerina and Walker were the Apples of his Eye. His marriage to Brinda of 51 years is a testament of his love, devotion and commitment to her and their marriage. The examples they set for their children and others is one that should be studied and replicated.

Keith never met a stranger, and he acquired many close friends over the years through work and other activities. Anyone he considered a friend over the years was a friend for life and he never forgot them. He was known for picking up the phone and calling just to check in and of course making them laugh.

Keith was faithful to God, cherished his family and had the biggest and warmest heart. He was a great person and a great man. Although softspoken, he had an incredible sense of humor, could make anyone laugh, spoke from the heart and we are confident he is making people laugh in heaven now. His time with us was too short and he will be greatly missed. But those that loved him have many incredible memories to cherish and stories to retell carrying on his beautiful legacy. May God grant him eternal peace and happiness.

Keith was preceded in death by; his parents Leon & Eula, brother Jimmy “Dwight” Cullar, sister-in-law Patti Cullar, father-in-law John “Dennis” Koonce, mother-in-law Frances Koonce, brother-in-law Michael (Mike) Yarbrough and nephew-in-law Jim Houchin.

Surviving Keith is: his beloved wife of 51 years Brinda (Koonce) Cullar; his daughter Susan Cranfill (Allen) and granddaughter Katerina Cranfill; his son Brian Cullar (Ashley) and grandson Walker Cullar; brother Gerald Cullar (Karen); brother-in-law Jerl Koonce (Rose); sister-in-law Cindy Yarbrough; nephews, Jared Cullar, Shawn Cullar, Brandon Cullar, Cody Cullar, J D Koonce and Lance Yarbrough; nieces, Kendall Steinfield and LaTisha Houchin; and many great nephews, great nieces and friends.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Monday, August 31, 2026, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville (507 South Main Street) with Visitation at 10 am. Officiant: Pastor Charles Haines. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): American Cancer Society or Charity of Your Choice. Burial: Salem Cemetery, Ezzell Texas.
