Pete attended Boethel School and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1945. Immediately following graduation he entered the United States Army and served from July 1945 until January 1947 being stationed in Italy from December 1945 until December 1946.
On July 26, 1964 he married Grace M. Zweschper at St. Mary's Catholic Church in High Hill, Texas. Pete was in the newspaper and printing business starting at the New Era Herald while attending high school. He was a linotype operator for the military newspaper The Stars & Stripes during his military service. After returning home he was again associated with The New Era Herald, then with the Victoria Advocate and his own printing business.
He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as one of the first lectors and as a member of the Parish Advisory council. He supported his church and Sacred Heart Catholic School with his time and printing services. He was a Hallettsville Volunteer Fireman serving as Chief from 1960 until 1962. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus and the Old Kinkler Cemetery Association.
Mr. Steinberg is survived by his wife of 45 years Grace M. Steinberg, his son Carl P. Steinberg and wife Lisa of Deer Park, his daughter Mary G. Ventura and husband Victor of Houston, his grandson Robbie Schillings of Deer Park, his granddaughters Elizabeth Ventura of Houston and Emily Courville of Deer Park and his sister Marguerite New of Pasadena.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elizabeth M. Henry.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 3 pm, Monday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Robbie Schillings, John David New, Chris Swafford, John Henry, Bill Henry, and Steven Henry. Honorary Pallbearers: Delbert Henry and Patrick Fabian. Officiate: Rev Michael Rother. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic School or the Old Kinkler Cemetery Association. Burial: Old Kinkler Cemetery.
