IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pauline Anna
Pesek Morkovsky Najvar
September 20, 1917 – April 18, 2018
Pauline Anna Pesek Morkovsky Najvar, age 100, of Hallettsville, Texas passed from this life into the arms of her Lord on April 18, 2018. She died peacefully surrounded by loving family.
Pauline was born September 20, 1917 to Justina Chaloupka Pesek and James Joe Pesek in Sweet Home, TX on the family farm. She attended school in Sweet Home until the 8 th grade and with her siblings worked on the farm and picked cotton. She married Alphonse Morkovsky in 1936. They had one daughter, Bernice Morkovsky. Tragically in 1937 when Bernice was 4 months old, Alphonse died in a car accident. Alphonse's mother also died in the same accident and one of his brothers was severely injured. Pauline found love again and married Vaclav "Jim" Najvar in 1940. They had one daughter Annette Najvar, and they lost a baby boy at birth. Pauline and Jim owned and ran a grocery business in Hallettsville which was well known for milk deliveries to customers' doors. In addition to canned goods, they sold many of their own produce such as eggs, homemade butter and freshly butchered chickens on Fridays. They eventually sold the store to Jim's sister, Helen. They built a home during 1948 in Hallettsville where Pauline lived for the rest of her life. She was widowed a second time when she lost Jim in 1970.
Pauline loved Czech and polka music. She was an avid gardener and had a large vegetable garden most of her life. She was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, and cook. She was often found in the kitchen baking kolaches, strudel, cobbler, and pigs in the blanket, making homemade egg noodles, butter, ice cream, and cottage cheese, canning fruits and vegetables, and fermenting pickles and sauerkraut. Food was an important part of all her family gatherings.
Pauline's life was based on faith, family and service to God. In 1959 after the death of her mother, she took in her sister with cerebral palsy, Annie Mae Pesek, and gave her extraordinary care until Annie Mae died in 2014. Pauline was a guiding light and source of wisdom in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family. She was dedicated to her family, and she participated in every significant event of those she loved. Spending holidays with family and friends was very special and meaningful to her. She organized and attended numerous family celebrations and reunions over the years. Pauline taught all those who touched her life the true meaning of love, selflessness, honor, hard work, sacrifice, compassion, family and faith.
Pauline was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, the KJZT Society, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. She was a supporting member of the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department
