Paul David Wendel, 47, of Mission, TX, passed away June 27, 2017. He was born on June 16, 1970 to Waldemar W. & Pauline Flathmann Wendel in Brenham, TX.

Paul was a gentle giant who loved life, God, his family and friends, and corny jokes. He graduated from high school in 1988 in Mathis, Texas, and lived in many places with his parents and sister. Everywhere he lived, he found people with whom he could share a game of cards or dominoes, and tell his silly puns. He also loved sports and could quote almost any statistic, especially height and weight, of almost any player, be it pro, college, or Texas high school football. His big smile and even bigger heart will be greatly missed.

Paul is survived by: 2 sisters, Kristen Shults & husband James of Mission, TX, and Mary Waters & husband Kenneth of Rockdale, TX; nieces Tanya Arnold of Marble Falls, TX, and Pamela Thomas of Rockdale; and nephew Kellen Shults of Mission, TX.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Saturday, July 1, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 12 noon, Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Officiant: Pastor Ray Hagan. Pallbearers: James Shults, Kenneth Waters, Kellen Shults, Scott Arnold, Brad Thomas, and David Flathmann. Memorials: Charity of your Choice. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery.
