Obituary

Paul James Janak Sr., 80, of Hallettsville, passed away Dec. 16, 2017. He was born on Dec. 8, 1937 to Paul A. & Annie Jalufka Janak, at the family home in Hallettsville. He attended grade school at Stacey School in Hallettsville, and then transferred to St. Ludmila in Shiner, Texas. He graduated in 1955. He married Rose Mary Okruhlik on April 4, 1964 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Praha, TX. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

While in high school he joined the Texas National Guard. He served 10 years, making to the rank of sergeant. Training was every Wednesday night in Gonzales and 2 weeks in Palacios; as a rifleman, jeep driver and some kitchen duty.

Paul began his career working on televisions and radios with his uncle Fred Janak. Later he worked many years at Gene's Appliance, and then Electronic Specialist in Schulenburg. His last day of work was November 3, 2017, at the age of 79. He worked every day, hardly taking a day off.

Another love of Paul's was playing base and rhythm guitar. He played with the Louis Nevlud Band, Wence Shimek Orchestra, Tony Janak Band, and Leroy's Swinging Orchestra. He had to retire his guitar playing when he injured his playing finger.

Of course, Paul's greatest love was spending time with his family. He was known affectionately as "Pops" by his children and his children's friends, known as "Popo" by his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to "Possum Flats" and spending time with his hunting buddies. It was always a fun adventure for his sons.

Cooking and eating is a big deal in the Janak family. Every Sunday, you could find Paul and his family barbequing or cooking a pot of something. Family was very important and Paul made lots of sacrifices for his kids.

We know that Paul is being welcomed into heaven by all his loved ones who went before him, like his parents, James Roznovsky, Susan Janak, Leroy Rybak, Sammy Harper, Herman Sciba, and many others.
