December 27, 1946 – February 9, 2017
Norbert D. Janak, 70, of Hallettsville, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his home. He was born December 27, 1946 to Mike V. and Lillie (Wagner) Janak of Hallettsville. Norbert went to Wied School, and graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Shiner in 1965.
He was drafted into the Army January, 1966. After training at Fort Lewis, WA, for one year, Norbert was then sent to Vietnam, working with a heavy artillery unit for one year. After returning from the Army January 1968, Norbert then worked for TRW Mission in Houston for 5 years.
After his father's death in 1973, he moved back to Wied and continued the farming/ranching operation until his death.
At an early age Norbert enjoyed singing and playing guitar. After returning from the Army Norbert continued his music. He played with the "The Legends" and then the "Gold Dust" band.
Norbert is survived by: his loving companion of 24 years, Maggie Boehm; 4 sisters, Mary Jo Veit of Shiner, TX, Gussie Kelnar of Hallettsville, TX, Terrie Nerren (Nick) of Houston, TX, Rose Mary Knox (Bob) of Stockton, CA; 4 brothers, Ludy Janak (Diane) of Hallettsville, TX, Patrick Janak (Monika) of Victoria, TX, Edmund Janak (Frances) of Houston, TX, and Benjamin Janak (Linda) of Victoria, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norbert was preceded in death by; his parents, brother Julius Janak, and brothers-in-laws Lawrence Veit & Raymond Kelnar.
Funeral Mass Service:
2 pm, Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Visitation:
4 pm, Monday February 13, 2017, at Kubena Funeral Home with a
Prayer Service
at 6 pm.
Pallbearers:
Michael Veit, Brandon Janak, Brian Kelnar, Chris Nerren, Michael Janak, and Travis James Boehm II.
Honorary Pallbearers:
Greg Veit, Kevin Kelnar, Mark Kelnar, and Jeremy Janak.
Officiant:
Msgr. John Peters.
