Mildred Willis Bishop Thigpen, aged 95, 2 months, and 1 day, went to be with our Lord on May 21, 2012. She was born on March 20, 1917 to James Weaver Bishop and Fannie Reagan Bishop of Lavaca County, Texas and was the eldest of four children. She married Earl Shannon Thigpen on July 31, 1937 and had two children, Earl Brian Thigpen and James Arthur Thigpen. Except for living in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, Texas for a few years she was a life-long resident of Lavaca County. She enjoyed the simple things in life and took great pleasure in quilting and growing purple peas. She won several awards for her quilting in the handmade category and some of her quilts still adorn the beds of her family. Mildred's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she never met an animal that she didn't like. She was survived by one son Earl B. Thigpen and wife Judith, four grandchildren, Brian Lane Thigpen, Shannon Lea Thigpen Giles, James Thigpen of North Carolina and Robert Thigpen of Pennsylvania and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother James Eugene Bishop and his wife Wilma, one sister Nina Brown of Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Earl S. Thigpen, one son James A. Thigpen, her father James W. Bishop, her mother Fannie Bishop and one sister Lelia Horton.

Services
will be held at graveside only as requested and will begin at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 23, 2012 following a luncheon at the
Salem Baptist Church Annex
. Malcome Paulk will officiate the funeral service.
