Mildred O'Brien, 91, of Hallettsville, died Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born April 2, 1917 to the late Victor Ben and Mary Lenore Kunze Gerdes. She was a retired school teacher having taught in the Stacy, Sheridan, Moulton, and Hallettsville Schools. She also worked for the Texas Human Resources and the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After her retirement, she taught many local children piano lessons after school.

Mildred is survived by daughters Nella and her husband Lonny Montgomery of Sweeny, and Jackie and her husband Jerry Robertson of Hallettsville; and brother Victor Gerdes Jr. of Middletown, New Jersey.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Joe Goode in 1954, son Joseph Carl "Corky" Goode Jr., second husband Floyd O'Brien in 2001, and brother Gilbert "Gibby" Gerdes Sr.

Service: 2 pm, Monday, May 19, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 3 pm, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosaries: 6 pm, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home; and 1:30 pm, Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Jerry Robertson, Lonny Montgomery, James Evans, John Evans, Gilbert "Gibby" Gerdes Jr., and Michael Frisina. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, American Cancer Society, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
