Obituary

Michael (Mike) Chovanetz, 69 of Hallettsville passed away peacefully into the hands of Jesus, Saturday, January 6, 2018, surrounded in prayer by his loving family. He was born on July 8, 1948 to Fred and Annabelle (Buehrig) Chovanetz. On October 27, 1990 he married Kathleen Buzek of Hallettsville at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army 243rd A.V.N.Co and served two tours in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, VFW, and VVA.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents the late Fred and Annabelle Chovanetz. Michael is survived by his wife Kathleen Chovanetz, son Kevin Chovanetz and wife Tina and grandson Konnor Reid of Fulshear, TX. He is also survived by his three brothers, Fred Chovanetz and wife Laverne, James Chovanetz and wife Rida both of Hallettsville, Charles Chovanetz and wife Julie of Richmond, TX and sister Natalie and husband Jimmy Brandt of Wallis, TX.

Mike loved many things about life, to name a few, early morning squirrel and hog hunts, Saturday afternoon cruising country roads with his brother Charles and one of his most beloved times was spending time with his grandson Konnor. Mike was very knowledgeable and enjoyed reading a good book either in his rocking chair on his front porch or in his library. Mike will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and best pawpaw ever.

The family would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Lavaca Medical Center, Hospice of south Texas and Msgr. John Peters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic church, American Cancer society, Hospice of South Texas or donor's choice.

Memorial Mass Service: 10 am, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5:30 pm, Monday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rosary at 7 pm. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorial/Burial: Private burial at a later date
