Obituary

Maxine Gladys Mudd, 88, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2008. She was born on December 24, 1919 to Charles McElroy and Annie Ellen Cauthern McElroy in the family farm house 5 miles east of Shiner, Texas.

After graduating from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, her first teaching assignment was in Komensky, Texas. She taught school for 45 years; 7 years in Lavaca County, 22 years in Baytown, Texas and 16 years in Alvin, Texas. She earned a Masters Degree from the University of Houston during the years she spent in Baytown, Texas.

Maxine married Kelly Leonard Mudd and they had one child, Kelly Charles Mudd. When her son Kelly and family moved to Hallettsville in 1988, Maxine soon followed. She transferred her church membership to First United Methodist Church and has enjoyed serving others in her church family and the Hallettsville community. Maxine has participated actively in the Hallettsville Garden Club, Hallettsville Reading Club, Lavaca County Retired Teachers Association and the Lavaca Medical Center Auxiliary, along with volunteering to drive cancer patients to treatments. She lived a life of service and dedication to others.

Maxine is survived by her son, Kelly C. Mudd and his wife Karen; granddaughter Lisa Mudd Stephens, great-grandchildren Anna and Aaron Stephens; grandson Keith Mudd and his wife Joan, and great-grandchildren Emilie, Ryan and Wyatt Mudd. She is also survived by many other friends, neighbors and church family members.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 3PM at the First United Methodist Church in Hallettsville, Texas. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers , memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of South Texas.
