Obituary

Maurine Laas Fiedler, 82, of Pasadena, passed away May 8, 2010. She was born on Aug. 11, 1927 to Robert W. & Elsie Joost Laas in Hallettsville. She was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. She attended Hallettsville High School, which if I may say, she traveled to school by horse, which we were reminded of quite often. After high school, Maurine attended Texas Lutheran, and then transferred to Texas University, she wanted to major in Education to become a teacher, although she didn't major in Education, she still taught at Witting through the years of 1948 to 1949.

Maurine's plans suddenly changed when she met Eugene in 1949, and discovered they were meant to be together, so on November 23, 1950; they got married at St. Peters Lutheran Church of Hallettsville, moved to Pasadena, Texas in the same year and started a family. They were blessed with two sons, Jim and Larry, whom she loved very much. They became members of First Lutheran Church of Pasadena, where she was very active in Martha Circle, quilting, teaching Sunday School and other Christianity activities. Also while she was teaching, she kept an eye out on the boys to keep them away from the girls and out of trouble! She loved her church, she also enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, and she was madly in love with her cats, but most of all she loved her family. She always remembered birthdays; she sent cards to the kids at her church for special occasions. First Lutheran Church merged and became Peace Lutheran, where she was still involved with the church.

In 2007, Maurine was in Shiner, she became very ill, we brought her back to Pasadena where she stayed a little while in the hospital, then went into a nursing home/rehab where we felt at the time she was ready to be with the Lord, but she was strong willed and was not ready to go yet. The last few months of Maurine's life were difficult. Her Alzheimer's got the best of her, one day she knew you and the next day she wasn't sure who you were. We took her to Hallettsville where she wanted to be and placed her into a retirement home so she could be treated with luxury without trouble; form there we felt she was ready to be at peace with the Lord.

Maurine is survived by: husband E.J.; 2 sons, Jim Fiedler & wife Ann of New Braunfels, and Larry Fiedler & wife Lisa of Pasadena; sister Eloise Boney & husband Grady of Tomball; 4 grandchildren, Jimmy Fiedler & wife Jessica, Steven Fiedler & wife Jennifer, Amanda Fiedler, and Michelle Cousin; and 6 great grandchildren, Meaghan, Brooke, Emily, Kaylie, Kyle, and Travis.

Maurine was preceded in death by: parents; brother Delmar Laas; step-brother Claude Alblinger; and step-sister Jurleen Finger.
