Obituary

Mary Steffek, of Hallettsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the age of 91 years and 9 months. She was born on May 27, 1927 to Frank Joseph and Antonia Motal Zabransky in Flatonia, Texas. She was the last born in a family of four brothers and one sister, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Mary attended Breslau School for grades 1-10 and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1945. Upon her graduation from high school, she attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, receiving a Teaching Certificate to teach all grade levels. After raising her family, Mary went to work at the Lavaca County Tax Office for several years. She then went to work in the Payroll Department of Weingarten's. She later retired as Coordinator of the Lavaca County Senior Citizens Nutrition Program, of which she was instrumental in setting up for the county.

Mary was very active in supporting all of her children and their many activities, projects, and fundraisers while they attended Sacred Heart School. She was also active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and the Lavaca County Home Extension Service.

The family would like to thank the Hallettsville Rehab and Nursing Center for the wonderful care they gave our mother during her six-year stay. There were several nurses, nurse attendants, and hospice personnel who took a personal interest in Mom's care. We are forever grateful.
