Obituary

Mary Vivian Rehm, 61, of Hallettsville, passed away unexpectedly the morning of January 6, 2022.  She was born in Hallettsville on October 28, 1960, to Clarence and Marge Rehm.  She was the seventh born of their nine children.

Mary and her siblings grew up on their family farm almost five miles south of Hallettsville.  Mary milked cows, fished, rode horses and enjoyed all the things that a country life has to offer. It was a good childhood.

Mary attended Sacred Heart School.  In her high school years, she was an honor student and received the coveted end of season yearly spirit stick all four years.  After her graduation in May of 1979, she went into the mortgage loan servicing industry.  She worked in Austin for seventeen years for the same company that change names several times but was called Guaranty Residential Lending, Inc., when she left.  From there she moved to San Antonio to work for Washington Mutual Bank.  She was then offered a Senior Investment Analyst position with Aegis Mortgage Corporation in Houston where she received an excellent peak performance score.  She was then offered a job with Residential Credit Solutions, Inc. of Fort Worth to continue working as a Senior Investment Analyst.

While working away from Hallettsville, Mary made frequent trips back to visit family.  She also enjoyed yearly trips to Rockport (where her Mom was raised) for family vacations.  At family gatherings, Mary was always "the life of the party" with her wit and humor.  Having never married or had children of her own, she thoroughly enjoyed her nieces and nephews and showered them with many gifts.  They all have very fond memories of their Aunt Mary.  Once she even dressed as Santa and did a performance to music for them.

In 2016, Mary suffered a severe health scare and was transported by ambulance to the hospital.  That helped her realize that she didn't want to be so far away from all her family anymore.  She made the decision to move back to Hallettsville. She took a job at Wal Mart.  For the last four years she also worked part time at the Lavaca County Tax Office during their busy season from October to February.  Mary was loved and respected by all her co-workers.

Mary was preceded in death by:  her parents Clarence Joseph Rehm and Marge Stewart Rehm; two siblings, Pat Rehm and Rita Grafe; sister-in-law Debbie Rehm Honc; and several infant niece and nephews.

Mary is survived by:  three brothers, Ronnie Rehm & wife Mary Jane, Myron Rehm & wife Mag, and Morris Rehm & wife Raechel; three sisters, Barbara Michalcik & husband Glenn, Joyce Eisler & husband James, and Madeleine Vornsand & husband Allen; one brother-in-law Bob Grafe; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
