Obituary

Mary B. Prasek, 95, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 15, 2014. She was born on Oct. 20, 1919 to Anton J. & Carrie Kutach Recek in Wied, TX. She married William J. Prasek on Oct. 10, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Mary loved dancing and danced well into her golden years. She loved her two dogs, Daisy and Baby and also loved tending her cattle. Mary was better known as Mamaw to her grandchildren. There were special memories that you could only get from Mamaw like: Kapaka egg dumpling soup, her real Czech kolaches, driving down to the creek and driving the old white truck around the farm well before anyone was 16 years old. Mamaw was pretty consistent on everyone having a cold one before a meal and "stretching out" to rest afterwards. Mamaw got excited when she would hear good Czech music and her excitement was infectious to everyone around her. If anyone stayed the night with her, she would take the old rotary phone off the hook in the mornings so incoming callers would not disturb anyone sleeping in.

When Mamaw was no longer able to stay on the farm and moved to Houston, she enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching the birds, squirrels and horses; who she lovingly referred to as the cows. The only thing that would bring her peace was praying the rosary and singing to the guitar and her Czech music. She loved visitors and would eagerly watch cars coming down the street and report if they were turning in to visit.

Mary is survived by: son Harvey J. Prasek & wife Mary of Houston; daughter Gail Prasek & Tim Tipton of Houston; 4 grandchildren, Brandy Goodson, Ryan Prasek & wife Julie, Brandon Goodson & wife Kallie, and Nicole Burkhalter & husband Nick; and 3 great grandchildren, Trenton Prasek, Tanner Prasek, and Braden Burkhalter.
