Obituary

Mary Lee Mikulenka Brosch, age 90, of Hallettsville, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025.  She was born on October 24, 1934, in Hallettsville, Texas, the youngest of six children to Julius Mikulenka and Mary Sitka.

Mary Lee grew up in Hallettsville and attended Brown School. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and actively participated in several community organizations, including the Catholic Daughters of Americas, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and the Ladies 42 Club.

On October 24, 1954, Mary Lee married the love of her life, Benedict Louis Brosch Sr.  Together, they built a beautiful life in Houston, Texas, raising one daughter and four sons.  A dedicated homemaker and loving mother, she was a constant source of support and encouragement to her children throughout their lives.  Later, she worked as a Shift Leader at Jack-in-the-Box, owned by a close family friend, before retiring with her husband to their beloved farm in Hallettsville.

Mary Lee loved working puzzles and was affectionately known as the family "Game Enthusiast."   She had a passion for playing Bingo, Uno, Skip-Bo, Canasta, and 42 dominoes.  She especially loved teaching her grandchildren how to play and hosting lively family game nights.  Her warm hospitality and joyful spirit shone brightest during the family's legendary fishing tournaments at the farm, where she welcomed everyone—friends and family alike—with open arms.

Mary Lee is survived by:  four of her five children, Belinda Brosch Williams, Benedict Brosch Jr., Kurt Joseph Brosch & his wife Rebecca and David Allen Brosch & Deborah Baker; thirteen cherished grandchildren, Kryssa and Mike Lighthall, Taryn and Randy Glasgow, Courtney and John White, Philip Brosch, Zachary Brosch, Connor Brosch and Carley Kuehn, Ashlyn Brosch, Brianna and Mike Grillo, Logan Brosch and Agust Ornelas, Haley Alverez, Jacob and Alex Brosch, Chase Brosch and Tiffiny Alongi; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by:  her beloved husband Benedict Louis Brosch Sr.; her son Timothy Michael Brosch; her parents; siblings, Julius Mikulenka, Ann Mikulenka Butschek, Loraine Mikulenka Butschek, George Mikulenka and Alvin Mikulenka; and her great granddaughter Savanna Alvarez.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center, Lavaca Medical Hospital and Dr. Morgan Heck for their compassionate care and support.
