Obituary

Mary Lou Janssen Webb, 71, died June 6, 2006. She was born at home in Mahaska County, Iowa, on October 26, 1934. She grew up on the family farm with her maternal grandmother, parents, two sisters, and a brother. She loved working hard along side her Dad milking cows, getting water, working in the fields, gardening, or cleaning chickens for dinner. She did however, find great pride in cooking, canning and keeping the house as well as Mother did. She especially enjoyed the time she spent combing, braiding, and rolling into a bun her Grandmother's very long hair.

After graduating high school, she moved to the big city of Des Moines, Iowa, to live with Aunt Lizzy and worked for Meredith Publishing Company. On one evening Mary Lou and her older sister went to a local dance where she caught the eye of a young man (Hubert Warren Webb) who said to his buddy, "She's mine". The next time he went hoping to see her, she was not there but to his surprise, her sister Joan was there with a note from Mary Lou saying that she couldn't make it as she was working overtime. They began to date and were then married on July 3, 1954 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Warren and Lou (as they were referred to by most) had 5 children and spouses (Dan & Gayle Webb of St. Louis, Missouri; Vicki & Curtis Sparks of Montezuma, Iowa; James & Sylvia Webb of Victoria, Texas; Brian & Susan Webb of Maysville, Oklahoma; and Theresa & Kenneth Butschek of Hallettsville, Texas). She is also survived by her brother Bernard Janssen of Eddyville, Iowa; 2-sisters, Dorothea Hicks of Guernsey, Iowa, and Joan Molyneux of Des Moines, Iowa.

Lou and Warren were blessed with 13 grandchildren; Kohryn Webb, Bernard (Ben) Webb; April Sparks-Mintle, Angela Sparks, Asa Sparks; Eddie Cisneros, Angela Webb; Matthew Webb, Michael Webb; Christopher Butschek, Katherine Butschek, Kimberly Butschek, and Stephanie Butschek. The blessing has continued with the arrival of 3 great-grandchildren; Maddeline Mintle, Miles Mintle, and Maxwell Mintle.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bernardus (Ben) Janssen and Veronica (Verna) Gasper Janssen.
