Obituary

Mary M. Garmon, 88, of Ezzell, passed away March 27, 2012. She was born on January 18, 1924 to Philip & Julia Rother Schlageter in Sweet Home, Texas. While growing up, Mary enjoyed the country life, helping her parents raise chickens, livestock, milking cows and selling milk and eggs for revenue.

Mary's family moving quite often, this required her to stay with friends and family in various locations. Therefore she attended numerous schools within Lavaca County before eventually graduating from Hallettsville High School. Upon graduating, Mary began working at the Ford dealership in Yoakum. After this she became a PBX operator in San Antonio. While attending a dance she met Willie F. Garmon who later became her husband. She married Willie F. Garmon on October 15, 1947 in Schulenburg, Texas. In 1950, with the birth of the first of two sons, Mary became a full-time mother and housewife.

After raising their children and Willie retiring in Houston, Willie and Mary made their home in the Ezzell community. Among some of her interests were baking, quilting, her grandchildren and was very active in her church and had a firm belief in God.

Mary is survived by: 2 sons, Daniel Garmon & wife Donna of Humble, and Patrick Garmon & wife Judy of Houston; brother Philip Schlageter Jr. of Hackberry, Texas; sister Dorothy Orsak of Hallettsville; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by: her husband Willie; parents; and a brother at infancy.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Mark Mounts. Pallbearers: Heath Garmon, Jeremy Garmon, Curtis Garmon, Mike Orsak, Leon Sontag, and Edwin Brawley. Burial: Salem Cemetery. Memorials: American Cancer Society or Donor's Choice.
