Obituary

Mary M. Bonorden, one day shy of her 72nd birthday, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2014. She was born on April 7, 1942 in Hallettsville, Texas to Frank H. Migl and Mary Grahmann Migl Haidusek.

Following in the musical footsteps of her father, Mom began at a young age to play the piano.. She continued to play throughout her life. Rhonda and Renee have fond memories of sitting with her at the piano and singing as she played "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else But Me)". Mom continued to play the organ for Sacred Heart Catholic Church until 1970. She told us many stories from her childhood, which included memories of picking cotton. As a child, she said it was a special treat to receive fresh fruit at Christmas time.

Our mother graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. Following graduation she moved to Houston to work for an insurance company. On a weekend home she met our dad, Harold Dean Bonorden, while attending a dance at the American Legion Hall. Mom and Dad were married on the Sunday evening of June 3, 1962. Upon the arrival of their honeymoon destination in Corpus Christi, they found their clothes had all been sewn together. They would have been married for 52 years this June.

Mom worked for Southwestern Bell for 13 years. Following the closing of the local SWB office she started her banking career with the First National Bank of Hallettsville. After the bank underwent several name changes, she retired from Wells Fargo, giving 20 years of service to the banking industry. Within 8 months of retirement she was diagnosed with cancer. It was a devastating blow as our parents were just starting to enjoy their retirement together. There were many times she worried she would not be with us to celebrate special occasions such as the birth of Holly's children and her granddaughter, Christa's wedding. She fought for 14 years to be here with us.

Mom, known as Nanny to her grandchildren, cherished their visits. She shared her secret stash of candy, played board games and made Mickey Mouse pancakes with them. When the grandkids were little, you could always find one of them in her lap being rocked or read to. She always tried to find something special for the grandkids when she went shopping. When it became hard for her to get around, she enjoyed watching them from her chair in the sunroom while they were fishing off the pier. She loved her home filled with the laughter of the grandchildren.

She loved visiting with friends. Our parents and their core group of friends have been gathering every 4th of July weekend to the Island House Condominiums on Padre Island for the past 41 years. There are now 4 generations coming together during this special time.

Mom is admired by many for always looking her best no matter what the circumstance. We laugh that she looked better on her worst days then us girls did on a good day. When we asked her what her secret was, she told us to stay out of the sun and use the original Oil of Olay lotion. She said she learned to use it from her mother.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Harold Dean Bonorden, daughters Rhonda Wilson (Kenneth Brown), Renee Bludau (Steve), and Holly Pustejovsky (Bradley). Five grandchildren: Christa Bludau Spring (Troy), Keaton, Katelyn, Kole, and Kade Pustejovsky. Siblings Frank H. Migl (Elrose), Joe Migl (Edith), Virginia Steffek (Raymond), Leona Steffek (Robert), Paul Migl (Sandra), Anita Migl, half-sister Loretta Migl Matejek and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, step-father Louis Haidusek, half-siblings Eugene Migl and Marjorie Migl Fields and grandson Tyler Dean Bludau, the greatest loss of her life.
