Marvin James Haas, a resident of Houston, Texas, peacefully passed away on April 26, 2024, at the age of 78.  He was born on July 6, 1945, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Hubert A. and Annie (Filla) Haas.  Marvin's early years were steeped in faith as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he dutifully served as an altar boy.  He received his education at Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating as valedictorian in 1963.  Marvin continued his academic journey at Victoria Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1968.

Following his studies, Marvin devoted six years to the United States Army Reserves, culminating in an Honorable Discharge in 1974.  His dedication to his country remained steadfast throughout his life.  Marvin's professional career was centered in the oil and gas industry, where he served as an accountant in both Corpus Christi and Houston until his retirement in 2013.

Marvin was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the community of St. Laurence Catholic Church located in Sugar Land, Texas.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Marvin was a talented musician, showcasing his skills on the saxophone and accordion with several polka bands, including his role as one of the first members of the Tony Janak Polka Band.  He was not just a remarkable musician but also an amazing dancer. Together with Betty Jean, they would grace the dance floor with their presence.

On February 1, 1969, Marvin married Betty Jean Stasny, the love of his life, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home, Texas. Together, they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Marvin was a devoted father to three daughters and a cherished grandfather to his seven grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by:  his beloved wife Betty Jean of Houston; daughters, Cindy Haas of Austin, Cheryl Anson and her husband Ryan of Spicewood and Carla Valdez and her husband Gregory of Leander; grandchildren Tyler, Riley, Hailey, and Braylen Anson, and Myra, Wyatt, and Ryder Valdez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Hubert Haas and Annie Haas Henneke and his stepfather Oscar Henneke.

In remembrance of Marvin's life, let us cherish the memories he leaves behind and celebrate the legacy of love and dedication he imparted to all who knew him.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Friday, May 3, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: starting at 5 pm Thursday, with Rosary starting at 7 pm at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Tyler Anson, Braylen Anson, Patrick Spies, Brian Spies, Michael DeBord and Douglas Motal. Officiant: Rev. Michael Rother. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic School or donor's choice. Burial: Ascension of our Lord Catholic Cemetery, Moravia, TX.
