Obituary

Marilyn F. Rice, 60, of Hallettsville, passed away April 30, 2013. She was born on June 19, 1952 in Hallettsville. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Richardson Chapel United Methodist Church of Hallettsville, where she played piano from the age of 12. She graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1970, and attended Prairie View A&M University. After college, Marilyn moved to Houston, where she worked as a Revenue Agent with the IRS for 30 years. While working for IRS, Sister Marilyn (as she was affectionately known) started a Gospel Radio program on Texas Thunder Radio, which ran for 18 years.

Sister Marilyn was an active member in the Kairos and Emmaus ministries, served on the District Council on ministry, and helped with the Victoria District of the UMC youth summer camping program. She answered her calling into the pastoral ministry and became pastor of Henson Chapel and Evans Chapel in Gonzales, TX.

Marilyn is survived by: her mother Ladell Hogan of Hallettsville; twin sister Marian Hogan of Hallettsville; brother Allan Hogan of Elgin, TX; and half-sister Janet Watson of Los Angeles, CA.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Richardson Chapel United Methodist Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. James Bryant. Pallbearers: Dave Washington, Henry Washington, Reuben Shandy Sr., Ernest Harrison, Warren Williams Jr., Jamie Hartwell, Barion McAfee, and Tristen Wilson. Memorials: Richardson Chapel United Methodist Church or Donor's Choice. Burial: Willow Creek Cemetery.
