IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marge Stewart
Rehm
July 26, 1927 – February 24, 2017
Marge Stewart Rehm, 89, of Hallettsville, passed away unexpectedly, yet gently, with family by her side the evening of Friday, February 24, 2017. Marge was born in Madison, Illinois on July 26, 1927, the fifth of eight children born to Alexander & Winona Sweeney Stewart. She was raised in Rockport, TX, where she fell in love with the beach and coastal living.
After graduating high school, the family moved to Hallettsville. It didn't take Marge long to notice a handsome WWII veteran, Clarence J. Rehm, who attended her church. She married Clarence on Nov. 24, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville, and to this union brought nine children: Rita, Ronnie, Myron, Barbara, Pat, Joyce, Mary, Madeleine, and Morris.
Marge was a loving homemaker, and in constant attendance of all of her children's many athletic endeavors. She was also very active in youth groups, including the Hallettsville Youth Organization (HYO) and the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). When her last child was almost five years old, she took a job as an Optometrist's Assistant for Dr. Norman Rubin, and worked there for over 15 years. Later, she managed a Christian bookstore on the Square named "His Corner," and a daycare named "Playtime Nursery." Children were her life and she poured all of her energy and attention into them, whether they were hers or not. Many outside the family called her "Momma Marge."
After the loss of her son, Patrick Neal Rehm in 1981, Marge took up the ministry of helping others deal with the grief of losing a child. In addition, she started a memorial for deceased Sacred Heart Students which became a part of the annual Homecoming Mass.
Marge loved her husband, her family, extended family, and her many friends. And anyone who knew her, knew she loved Christmas, evident by the fact that she would decorate every room in the house with a Christmas tree. She loved to play a card game named Shanghai and would solicit anyone around to learn the game. She loved to put puzzles together, or color pictures. She loved the color purple, loved to have fun, and loved to laugh. Her undefeatable character and her ability to be resilient regardless of life's challenges set an example to all who knew her. Her passing leaves a hole in our lives and hearts. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Marge is survived by: 7 children, Ronnie Rehm & wife Mary Jane Janak Rehm, Myron Rehm & wife Mag Janak Rehm, Barbara Rehm Michalcik & husband Glenn, Joyce Rehm Eisler & husband James, Mary Rehm, Madeleine Rehm Vornsand & husband Allen, and Morris Rehm & wife Raechel Revel Rehm; son-in-law, Robert Grafe, and a former daughter-in-law, Debbie Kelly Rehm Honc; brother Alex Stewart; sister Sr. Rose Stewart; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
