IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret A.
Smotek
February 25, 1926 – March 14, 2023
Margaret A. Smotek, 97, of Hallettsville, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2023. She was born on February 25, 1926, to Eddie & Amalie Klechka Schiller, in Howellville, Texas. She was a member of the Houston Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Houston, Texas for many years. She was active in the Christian Sisters and taught confirmation classes. She also participated in numerous organizations including the Extension Club, American Legion Auxiliary, the local Food Bank, and the Czech Heritage Society. She was also a 50 year plus member of SPJST.
Margaret met the love of her life, Albert Smotek, at a New Years Eve dance and that is when her life began to soar! She married Albert E. Smotek on September 15, 1946, in Houston. Both Margaret and her husband loved to dance and frequently attended polka dances.
Margaret never forgot her early life as a child living during the Depression. She commented later that at times "they were starving to death!" Those tough times gave her a greater appreciation of life and the gifts she was given.
Most notably, Margaret worked for 25 years at Curtis 1000, a printing company, as an executive secretary. Upon retirement, Margaret and Albert moved to Hallettsville, Texas and began living the country life! She embraced her new community. She especially loved the warm and friendly residents of Hallettsville. Almost everyone here was of Czech decent or was married to a Czech! It was also a blessing that another brethren church was located right outside of Hallettsville, the Czech Moravian Brethren Church of Vsetin.
Margaret saw God's beauty all around her…in nature and in people. You are all here today because you were a part of her life in some way and she honestly cared for you. We will all miss sweet, sweet Margaret.
Margaret is survived by; daughter Peggy Frese (Patrick), son Glenn Smotek (Ronda), 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews & friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Elton Schiller.
