Margaret Pauline Novak, 99, of Hallettsville, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, she was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. She was born on June 18, 1925, in Hostyn, Texas, to Otto and Minnie Thuemler. At the young age of 18 years old, she was drawn to the big city of Houston where she was employed by Sakowitsz Department store in downtown Houston.
Margaret met the love of her life, Gene, on a blind date and got married soon after on February 19, 1950 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. They resided in Schulenburg, Texas, where Gene worked for Ford Motor Company and Margaret worked as a receptionist for Dr. Watzlavick. In 1952, Gene and Margaret moved to Houston where they had seven children over a span of fifteen years. They were active members of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Houston until 1994, when they retired and moved to Hallettsville, Texas.
Margaret was a faithful servant of the Lord and very active parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters and received her 50-year pin. She enjoyed traveling with Gene, family and friends to various destinations in the US and Europe. Also, she went on a cruise with her daughters Miranda and Marilyn at the young age of 90 years old. She loved her weekly routine whether it was playing dominoes with her family and friends, working out at the Hallettsville Physical Therapy Center, or getting her hair done every Friday. She also loved playing bingo and going to the small -town picnics.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with her 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends. Her passion was baking delicious kolaches and strudels. She had a very giving heart that brought joy and laughter to everyone she knew. Her family and friends will miss her deeply and will hold her close in their hearts forever. The family would especially like to extend their deep gratitude to her home caregivers, Rose Mata, Doris Beinhauser, Linda Boedeker, Stacey Allen and her Home Health nurse Paige Herman.
Margaret was preceded in death by; her parents Otto & Minnie Thuemler, husband of 58 years Gene, sisters Laura Kosler and Loretta Hollek, and granddaughter Erin Novak.
Left to cherish her memory are Margaret's children; daughter Miranda Buckley & husband Bill, son Mark Novak & wife Noel, son Myron Novak & wife Mary, daughter Marilyn Sobotik & husband Donnie, son Michael Novak & wife Judy, son Matthew Novak & wife Sandra and son Maurice Novak & wife Lisa. Grandchildren; Courtney Stevener & husband Andrew, Chris Buckley, Lauren Parcell & husband Leif, Justin Sobotik & wife Katie, Jason Sobotik & Alli Watson (fiancée), Audrey Novak & Callum Wilson (fiancé), Ian Novak, Ashlynn Novak and Allyson Novak. Great-grandchildren, Ophelia and Piper Stevener, and Jensen Parcell.
Funeral Mass Service: 10:30 am, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville with Visitation starting at 9 am and Rosary at 10 am. Officiant: Rev. Michael Rother. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
