Obituary

Lundy Flournoy Hooten Jr., age 91, passed away at the home of his son Lundy F. Hooten III, in Hallettsville, Texas, on June 3, 2006. Mr. Hooten was born in Cooper, Texas, on August 31, 1914, the son of Lundy and Una Good Hooten.

After graduating from Cooper High School, Lundy attended East Texas State Teachers' College and the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a degree in pharmacy. On November 8, 1936, he married Sara Jo Robertson in the Presbyterian Church in Cooper.

During World War II, Lundy served in the Army managing base pharmacies in Florida and Alabama. Following the war he worked with his father L.F. Hooten Sr., in the Hooten Drug Co. on the square in Cooper for almost forty years, before selling the drug store to Marion Miller, with whom he worked part-time both at the Hooten Drug Co. and Miller's Pharmacy. Lundy served on the board of the Cooper Housing Authority and was a charter member of the Delta County Country Club where he played many rounds of golf.

He was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Cooper. With his wife Sara, Lundy enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, camping throughout the United States, and later touring Hawaii, Canada and Europe. Lundy is survived by his son Lundy Hooten III of Hallettsville and his wife Sharon, with who he had lived for the past three years.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Cristina Sibley of Plano, Texas, Tye Mark Hooten of San Antonio, Texas, and Christopher Chad Hooten of Victoria, Texas. Lundy has two great-grandchildren, Braylon and Cayden Sibley of Plano. He was preceded in death by his wife Sara who passed away on January 29, 2003.

A graveside service is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville, or the Hospice of South Texas. Memorial Service: 6pm, Monday, June 19, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Hallettsville. Officiate: Rev. Lundy Hooten III
