IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucinde Johanna

After celebrating nearly 100 years on this earth with her family and friends, Lucinde Johanna Neumann Schmidt finished her journey here on earth on June 8th, 2007. Lucinde was born in New York City on August 24, 1907 to Ernst Hans Wilhelm and Marie Eliese Dussmann Neumann.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother – Harold Neumann, her twin sister – Margret Goedecke, her husband – Gottfried Schmidt, her granddaughter – Doylena Schmidt Eaves.
Lucinde is survived by two children, daughter Margot Schmidt Schurig and Charles, son Werner Schmidt and wife Donna. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren – Renate Schurig, Christina Schurig Nieland, Ray Schmidt, and Lucinda Schmidt Kurtas; 5 great grandchildren – Emily Schmidt, Allison Schmidt, Jessica Eaves, Graham Nieland, Reid Kurtas; 4 nieces and nephews – Waltraut Duckworth and husband Ed, Otto Ernst Goedecke and wife Barbara, Curtis Goedecke and wife Tena, and Ursula Aston, as well as numerous members of an extended family.
Lucinde, her parents, twin sister and brother returned to Germany prior to WWI in order for Ernst Neumann to serve under the Kaiser. She spent her childhood in Bremen, Germany helping with the family's wine and specialty food store. On September 11, 1932, Lucinde married Gottfried Schmidt in Bremen. After going through WWII in Germany and raising two children, Lucinde, Gottfried, and their children, immigrated to Hallettsville, Texas in 1951 to be nearer to her twin sister and parents Ernst and Marie Neumann.
During her 50 years in Hallettsville, she was active in the Hallettsville Garden Club, St. Peter Women's Club, Hallettsville Reading Club and Hallettsville German Club. She swam, golfed and traveled at every opportunity. Often she was seen going across the street to her sister's to swim or to have a "Kaffe Klatch".
In 2002, she moved to Houston to be nearer to her family. Lucinde was known for her wonderful attitude toward life, great friendship, superb cooking and the pride she had for the achievements of her family. At each stop along her journey, Lucinde brightened the day of every person she met. Her politeness was well received. We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives.
We love you Omi and Papa.
