Lucille "Big Mama" Sims, 98, of Hallettsville, passed away June 17, 2017. She was born on April 12, 1919 to James and Etta Sims. She married James Sims in Sublime, Texas. She was a member of Orange Grove Baptist church in Sublime, Texas.

She was well loved in the community and she enjoyed going fishing and eating out at her favorite restaurant "The Golden Corral."

Big Mama also enjoyed canning and cooking her fresh vegetables and jellies. Some of her family favorites were purple hull peas with okra, corn casserole, corn bread, fried fish, dewberry cobbler, watermelon rind preserves, dewberry, plum and grape jellies.

She enjoyed watching basketball games & game shows, shopping and listening to music. One of her favorite songs was Cooling Water by the William Bros.

Our Big Mama taught everyone how to love one another. She would always say "ya'll get along with each other and be good."

Lucille is survived by: son Howard Lee Sims & wife Wilma Jean of Missouri City, Texas; Great Nephew I.G. Herring & wife Annie; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Lucille was preceded in death by; her parents, husband 5 sisters Mary, Zamata, Minnie, Pearline, and Gladys; 2 brothers Edd and Early.

Funeral Mass Service: 11am, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Ricky Williams, Credale Brown, Kevin Brown, Cedrick Brown, Gary Brown, and Henry Brown. Honorary Pallbearers: Alan Sims, Kris Mathis, Dwayne Herring, Akili Sims, Kenneth Herring, Elroy Monroe, Roy Monroe Jr., Emmanuel Thomas, and Henry Prodon. Officiant: Rev. Paul Barrow. Burial: Willow Creek Cemetery.
